Every journey starts with a step, or so they say. Today was the start of that journey. I am a 49 nearly 50 year old who has spent the past few months watching as my freinds celebrate they Big 5-0. Whilst age is just a number, some numbers appear to have more weight than others, and this years birthday seems like one of those. The past 12 months have been challenging in many ways, and ultimately ended up with me having a major mental health issue, which nearly meant that I wouldn't be writing this blog now. Anyway that was then, and this is now. Things are much better and even though there are light and dark days, the light is much more prevalent. Today we were discussing running in the office, I have spent 24 years working on, delivering, organising, commentating, measuring courses, for a huge number of races. 5K run, walk and jog for women, fun runs, and in more recent times 10K races with international runners. We were discussing challenges for 2020, and how good the coverage of VLM 2019 was. I was lucky enough to work at London Marathon for 4 years, mostly in the post finish line area, then in 2011 on the grandstand. It has always been a stand out event and those who take part all have stories to tell. So tonight I took my first small-step. Followed by a message to my colleagues which read, "I think I might have done something foolish" along this image What followed was a stream of office banter and the realisation that of all of us who entered it was likely to be me that got a place. Well I guess the training starts tomorrow.
