Still no stones in the shoes but still feels like there is.
I guess the old trainers are not as good as I originally thought! Still managed to complete training walk again and this time 2 miles in 30 minutes - a new PB. Have also joined Stava, apparently if it's not on Starve it doesn't happen, personally not convinced. Will start to Starva my life to see what happens, wonder how much distance I cover in the office each day?

I have started the training. I made a decision to do some walking as a start and chose carefully my training ground I am so lucky to have a fantastic (and flat) 2 mile circuit around Roath park to use to start my training. What is more there are loads of other people of all shapes and sizes making their way around the park, so I don't feel out of place.
There are of course those who clearly know what they are doing, but most are more like me, and my wife/training partner. I bought 'good' trainers a few years ago and have used them to do a lot of walking, so figured they should be ok to get me started. We decided to do a lap of the park, 2 miles in distance at a fast walking pace. School boy error on the trainers as they feel like they have a stone in them, bit when I checked there was nothing! Will try them again tomorrow. 2 Miles took us 33 minutes, at this rate we can do a marathon in 6.5 hours, but it does mean keeping to that pace....that may take a bit more work. I think I have discovered a great new training plan.
According to the scales, since last week, I have lost 3kg, and I haven't done any training. How did this happen? I haven't had to count any calories, there hasn't been any red days or green days, and I don't even know what syns are...... What I do know is if you think a bit better about what you eat, steer clear of the things that you already know you should eat less off, you can definitely shift a few kg. Today I got to work at the Cardiff 5K.
What a treat to be in the middle of one of the best 5K races in the country. When I am a runner, not just a 'Marathon Runner in Training' this is the sort of race I want to take part in. Firstly its an evening run, so not an early start, and secondly they have street food and live entertainment after the race. Maybe this is one for next year....... I am now officially a - Marathon Runner in Training - well at least as far as my friends are concerned. I have today weighed myself for the first time is ages, I have tended to judge my weight loss or gain on how well my clothes fit. Currently most don't fit very well, which I have put down to comfort eating and medication. I have recorded where we are and will keep track to see how well the training is going. I have realised that due to a busy time in work, which is keeping me active, that actual training may need to wait a few days - well at least that is my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. It is my plan to ease in with some walking to begin with, I am a little nervous of my knees, they aren't great and I don't want to aggravate them before we even get going. Will have a check on knee supports and the correct footwear to make sure they stay safe. Training has to start somewhere, so why not with a blog.
Others may have thought that a trip to get a new pair of trainers would be more appropriate but in these days of mass communication, and with a want to keep track of my progress, a blog it is. 1small-step I will be 50 this year, and was born a matter of days before Neil and his friend Buzz took the original small-step. Ok they did have a huge team of people behind them, to help them achieve their goal, but my own team seems to be gathering some pace. My colleagues, who are still offering the increased level of office banter, have started to offer some tips.
Every journey starts with a step, or so they say. Today was the start of that journey. I am a 49 nearly 50 year old who has spent the past few months watching as my freinds celebrate they Big 5-0. Whilst age is just a number, some numbers appear to have more weight than others, and this years birthday seems like one of those. The past 12 months have been challenging in many ways, and ultimately ended up with me having a major mental health issue, which nearly meant that I wouldn't be writing this blog now. Anyway that was then, and this is now. Things are much better and even though there are light and dark days, the light is much more prevalent. Today we were discussing running in the office, I have spent 24 years working on, delivering, organising, commentating, measuring courses, for a huge number of races. 5K run, walk and jog for women, fun runs, and in more recent times 10K races with international runners. We were discussing challenges for 2020, and how good the coverage of VLM 2019 was. I was lucky enough to work at London Marathon for 4 years, mostly in the post finish line area, then in 2011 on the grandstand. It has always been a stand out event and those who take part all have stories to tell. So tonight I took my first small-step. Followed by a message to my colleagues which read, "I think I might have done something foolish" along this image What followed was a stream of office banter and the realisation that of all of us who entered it was likely to be me that got a place. Well I guess the training starts tomorrow. |
